When you are for the first time ever in the desert country, obviously you won’t miss going to desert safari, right?
I was really looking forward to it and that’s why my dear friend Sanja arranged this excursion to us (thank you, my love 💜). It sounded like fun to me, but actually I didn’t know what to expect.
There were so many offers – half day excursions, whole day excursions, 2-days excursion with spending the night in the desert, but for our first desert adventure we booked one day excursion. We chose to go with Sunshine Tours, because we had a discount coupon for it.
Driver, who were also our tour guide, picked us up in front of the some hotel (arranged meeting point) with an hour late. We were about to give up and went home, when he showed up with a traffic jam excuse. It was a bit exhausting waiting for an hour at the sun, but we decided not to allow that little inconvenience to spoil our adventure to come.
In the jeep already were few people: couple from Hungary, Joshua, an amazing guy from USA and Flora from Taiwan. My friend Jelena and I joined them. We were sitting in the back seat of the jeep (you will see later why I emphasize this).
Firstly, we went to some kind of desert farm where I met camels for the very first time. Yaaay! 😊
We get along, as you can tell. 😊
After this short visit, madness began. That was the craziest car drive ever. We were bumping from one side of the car to another. Our driver made sure we remembered this drive through the desert well. He was conquering dunes with an ease, thank God he was an excellent and professional driver. We were scared, excited and shocked at the same time. I was holding so tight that holder in the car and laughing all the time. I didn’t expect it at all, but it was sooo great experience. It gave me an adrenaline rush.
I don’t know how, but I actually managed to take a few pictures from the car during that crazy ride.
After funny bumping in the car, we made a short break in the middle of the desert to take some pictures and to enjoy the view.
After that, we continued to desert village. We had a nice welcome drink there – Arabian coffee and dates.
Before the dinner we had a free time, so firstly we climbed the dune with our new friends. It was quite a challenge, but we made it. Woo-hoo! 😊
Aaaand, after that it was time to ride a camel.. Yaay! 😊
I really had a fun time riding a camel and was so excited and happy. I love trying new things, and made a memories that will lasts forever.
Desert village had to offer plenty of activities. One of them was henna tattooing so we went to get some..
In a while, dinner was served, and we enjoyed trying some food typical for this region. After dinner we had a fun time during the belly dance show. We watched the performance and shortly after we all joined the dancer at the ‘dance floor’.
We even get a chance to take a picture with a falcon – the national bird of UAE which is a symbol of force and courage in Arab tradition and culture.
It was quite an interesting evening. At the end of a great day in the desert, all groups had gathering between the palms. We had some shisha time (this time I liked it), enjoying time with friends we made that day and relaxing under the stars. Aaamazing!
This day was full of new experiences and making memories. I am so grateful I had a chance to experience all that, chill under he stars in the desert, to learn something new and meet new people from all around the world.
To be prepared well, here are some tips for you:
- Protect your head and body from the sun
- Bring your sunglasses with you to protect your eyes both from sun and sand
- Take your shoes off and have a sand between your toes
- Stay hydrated
- Bring with you warmer clothes – it’s chill at the night
Now, you are completely ready for this adventure. I highly recommend it. Trust me, you won’t regret it. It’s always better to collect moments than things, don’t you agree?
Do you have any other tips for ‘surviving’ in the desert?
